Something I find unusual about most of the pictures I find online is the use of towels and swim suits. From my understanding these are both huge cultural faux pas. The Japanese have the concept of skinship, the close relationship that develops between friends or coworkers when they share their nakedness at a public bathhouse, and it makes me wonder if this is falling out of favor or if it is merely a representation of what is acceptable online

The first set is of a large ofuro
By being large it loses one of the best heat retaining benefits, the small surface area of the water. It would have a heater thoughs. You might notice there isn't a faucet. This would be filled with water from the handheld shower that is used to clean yourself before you get in the tub. Even if there is a faucet in the tub you might use a bowl of sorts to dip water out and clean yourself outside of the tub
